Basic phrases in some languages

Knowing the basics of a language is really important if you’re travelling or visiting another country. Even if you can’t speak the language proficiently, being able to say hello, please and thank you can affect the native people you are with. Here is a small list of some words and phrases everyone should know in a few languages.

The words we shall be looking at are: Hello; Thank you; Please; how are you?; and goodbye.

Spanish

Hello Hola
How are you? ¿Como estás? / ¿Qué tal?
Please/Thank you Por Favor / Gracias
Goodbye Adiós

French

Hello Bonjour
How are you? Comment allez vous? / Ça va?
Please/Thank you S’il vous plaît / Merci

German

Italian

Japanese
